As part of CNet’s on-going commitment to raising the profile of the data center sector as a vibrant and rewarding career option for school students and school leavers, the company has been invited to help lead the Waltham Forest Tech Camp on 29 November with an interactive, data center focused session for those attending.
Now in its second year, Digital Month aims to raise the digital literacy of residents and support local employers in a digital age. As part of Digital Month, London Borough of Waltham Forest is hosting Tech Camp, a week-long training program, which will see forty residents aged 18 – 24 with digital ambitions and aptitude, enhance their tech skills.
As well as providing an overview of possible career options Dr Theresa Simpkin, Higher and Further Education Principal at CNet, will be presenting an immersive activity that allows those attending the Tech Camp to take part in a data center crisis management simulation.
Designed for the Masters Degree in Data Center Leadership and Management program, delivered by CNet as an associate college of Anglia Ruskin University, the simulation allows participants to role play through a decision-making scenario that simulates the technology and business implications of a data center fire.
The tool sends real time news footage, twitter feeds, phone calls and email traffic from a range of fictional characters that demand action from the participants. The tool also allows participants to see the outcome of their decisions on the share price of their organization as their decisions are made; making the wrong decision creates all sorts of problems across the fictional organisation!
While this is primarily an immersive activity to put school students in a ‘real life’ business situation, it also provides insight into the variety of roles in the data center sector and how central it is to businesses and the community in general.
